Nigerian fashion brand, Meeyah Creations, marked her grand presence at the 2024 Birmingham Fashion Week held in Aston Birmingham, UK, with the showcase of her latest collection, the Essence Collection— a fresh approach to African fashion.

The 2024 Birmingham Fashion Week which held October 26-27, stands tall as a spectacular event that provided a dynamic platform for fashion designers to present their creations to an international audience comprising fashion enthusiasts, fashion students, industry experts and business leaders.

In this competitive and vibrant atmosphere, Meeyah Creations’ Essence Collection stood out, skilfully capturing the spirit of the Yoruba cultural heritage through contemporary designs that celebrated both cultural pride and artistic innovation.

For this collection, the designer dominantly worked with the brocade textile, a fabric steeped in luxury and history. By this careful choice of fabric, it took a bold step away from the more commonly used African textiles, such as Ankara, and instead, embraced a material that has often been associated with opulence in various cultures. Sheer lace fabric and silk, however, also featured in a few of the pieces.

The brocade’s rich texture and intricate patterns, according to Islamiat Aromashodu, CEO/Creative Director, Meeyah Creations, served as the perfect canvas for the collection’s narrative, which seeks to uphold traditional elements while speaking to a global audience.

The collection included evening, playful and everyday wears, as well dresses for special occasions, and each dazzled with color palette ranging widely across  purple, blue, gold, black and cream.

Each piece exuded luxury and sophistication.

The runway show was a sight to behold, with models showcasing stylish pieces from the collection, exuding top-notch elegance and poise.

One of the standout pieces was a floor-length vibrant orange brocade dress that captivated the audience with its touch of shimmering gold. The zero-embellished balloon-sleeved dress flowed gracefully down the runway, each step accentuating its bold elegance.

In a couple of other looks, kaftans, boubous and kimonos in bright and also conservative hues, showcased Meeyah Creations’ innovative approach to classic designs.

These Afro-centric pieces had clean lines that gave them a modern touch that brought a fresh perspective to traditional wear, resonating deeply with the show’s audience.

Generally, one standout feature of the collection was the use of customary Yoruba neckline embroidery on most of the pieces. These embroidery were skillfully adapted into each piece, serving as a bridge between the past and the present.

The reaction to Meeyah Creations’ Essence Collection was overwhelmingly positive. Fashion enthusiasts, critics, and industry insiders commended the brand’s ability to blend traditional elegance with modernity. The audience was particularly struck by the designer’s skillful use of fabric. Each piece felt like a statement, embodying the brand’s vision of championing inclusivity and diversity.

The Essence Collection brought together elements of culture and innovation, making each piece a celebration of cultural pride and artistic innovation.

Every single piece was a complete showcase of Meeyah Creation’s dedication to crafting contemporary yet Afro-inspired designs that resonate with the modern woman.

Happy Saturday!

This past Thursday, I flew to beautiful St. Louis, Missouri to host the launch of FGM Bespoke, the Fur and Leather Centre’s sustainable, luxury line for everyday fur wear.

25 models sashayed down the runway in bomb looks, ranging from shearling coats with leather shorts, multicolored matching sets, capes, and mink trimmed gowns.

Take a look:

We’re still hosting a giveaway for a Mongolian Coat! So for the occasion, I wore a “Claire” floor length pink coat and a matching latex dress from Venus X Prototype. I grabbed a pic with FGM Bepsoke designer Tiara Peach, who was picture perfect in an FGM Bespoke cape.

Afterwards, I grabbed pix with guests and snapped some St. Louis style!

It was fun! And I can’t wait to show you even more custom designs we create with FGM Bespoke!

We’ll be announcing our Mongolian Coat winner on Monday!

Stay tuned for more and be sure to visit @FGMBespoke on Instagram and visit FashionBombDailyShop.com to add select styles to cart this winter!

Founder and Designer Anifa Mvuemba is blazing a new trail with her latest Fall/Winter 2024 ready-to-wear brand, Hanifa, and she is forging a new future in the fashion industry with her avant-garde designs.

Entitled “It Girl,” her latest collection consists of a variety of must-have pieces that are characterized with vibrant colors, bold prints and feminine silhouettes. In addition to her RTW collection, the Hanifa brand also offers stunning bridal wear and handbags.

Mvuemba, who originally launched her collection back in 2012 has come a long way, becoming highly sought after by celebrities and fashionista’s alike.

Fashion Bomb Daily” was a huge part of Hanifa in the beginning because the platform that Claire Sulmers created put Haifa in the forefront of black woman who is our biggest customer base,” shared Mvuemba. “I always tell Claire, you don’t even know what you did for this brand, and we’ve had so many viral moments because of FBD which I hold that very dare to my heart.”

Inspired by New York City’s concrete jungle, Anifa wanted to center her collection around how diverse and wondrous New York is, which is reflective in her use of animal print and texture.

“Originally we were supposed to have a show for NYFW, but they didn’t give us a date on the calendar,” explained Mvuemba,So I dead-ed that and decided to do my own thing off calendar and the vibe of the collection was “It-Girl” which speaks to myself as a black woman, and a designer in this difficult industry.”

Despite the lack of diversity and inclusivity at New York Fashion Week, that hasn’t stopped Anifa from making her dreams a reality. From Michelle Obama, and Beyonce to Sarah Jessica Parker and Cardi B, she has undoubtedly created a renowned brand despite the gate-keepers.

Anifa wears a lot of hats and aside from being a creative, she’s an extraordinary business woman” said Yesmin Anthony, the COO of Hanifa. That’s one thing I really admire that she’s able to do both really well.

In the next 5-years, Anifa Mvuemba see’s herself owning a department store that is entirely dedicated to her lifestyle brand. “I want to be as big as a department store but Hanifa everything when you walk in,” she exclaimed. “My God is BIG so why would I think small?

If you are looking to turn heads and make a fashion statement, then look no further and shop Haifa’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection by clicking here Hanifa.co!

Happy Saturday!

So I am back from my whirlwind trip to Paris!

As many of you know, I am a France lover and Francophile, so going to Paris for Fashion week is always a must. I was thrilled to wear a dress by a black female designer you should know, Erin Nesmith to the Schiaparelli show:

Erin Nesmith is a fashion designer and artist with over a decade of experience in the fashion, art, and modeling industries. Starting as a lingerie designer, she merged art and fashion before transitioning into formal women’s wear. Erin’s designs empower women through bold, elegant creations, and her platform has always been about more than fashion. She leverages her work to advocate for gender equality, mental health, and sustainable development.

About this look, specifically created for Paris Fashion Week , Nesmith says, “I found myself captivated by Paris and the Olympic equestrian games. As a horse lover, I wanted to incorporate that passion into the piece, which led to the use of rich black velvet and a brown nude palette, evoking the elegance of stunning horses. Horses are known for their commanding presence, so I designed this dress with a bold structure to reflect that. To complete the look, I added thoughtful details like a horse bit for the belt, tying the whole concept together.“

It’s tough to imagine a world where the fingerprints of Black designers don’t exist in fashion. History reveals that the biggest celebrities, athletes, and models have worn innovative designs either created or heavily influenced by Black creators. From zoot suits to track suits to sweat suits, many modern fashion trends have been popularized by pioneering Black visionaries. Black designers have undoubtedly been the threads that weave the very fabric of the fashion industry, yet their influence is not reflected in their representation. In fact, only 7.3% of designers in America are Black  (Per Zippia.com, as of 2021), often facing systemic barriers and racial disparities despite their immense contributions.

Those who have managed to break through these barriers have done so with struggle, hard work, persistence, and a lot of pushback.  Despite the progress made and growing social awareness of these disparities, it remains incredibly challenging for new designers to secure a firm foothold in the industry. To support the diverse communities it serves, McDonald’s USA has launched the ‘Black and Positively Golden Change of Fashion’ program, leveraging their platform to help provide resources to five rising Black designers on the cusp of greatness.

This program includes designers from across the country, including Durrell Dupard, Shareef Mosby, Larissa Muehleder, Heart Roberts, and Nia Thomas. Through their journey they will be paired with experienced mentors, have access to expert-led masterclasses, one-on-one mentorship sessions,  featured on large stages, and have the opportunity to create two merch lines, including a capsule collection set to launch in 2025.

These young designers were present at September’s New York Fashion Week with a bevy of experiences – a live Meet and Greet at the iconic Times Square McDonald’s store, pop-up shop and short film premiere at the Black & Positively Golden Change of Fashion Symposium and “A Toast to Black Excellence” reception hosted in by the Black Excellence Brunch.  McDonald’s also partnered with the luxury design house LaQuan Smith for a week long apprenticeship for the Designers and to be the official late-night food sponsor at his inaugural runway show afterparty, serving the Chicken McNuggets and Fries to guests. The Golden Arches are committed to elevating Black-owned brands by leading the “Show Up and Show Out in Black” initiative in partnership with Zerina Akers’ Black Owned Everything, where patrons of Black Designers are gifted an “I Support Black Fashion Designers” pin with purchase. During NYFW they  encouraged everyone to shop for looks from Black-owned brands, alongside the Change of Fashion designers, and share it through social media, tagging @WeAreGolden and @BlackOwnedEverything.

These designers  made their mark during NYFW, let’s get to know these Black designers with incredible vision who plan to make their mark on the industry and how their mentors will help advance their careers.

[Change of Fashion Designer: Nia Thomas ]

Nia Thomas

Having a label that bears your name is a bold commitment to the mark you want to leave on the industry and to the consumers of your product. With your name on it, you’re driven to provide the best work possible, and Nia Thomas exemplifies this by pushing quality over quantity in her designs. She creates fashion with the intention of making anyone who wears it feel powerful, while also being mindful of sustainability, using eco-conscious fabrics. The New York native is paired with retail executive and buyer Shawn Howell, whose years of experience as VP Divisional Merchandise Manager of Saks Fifth Avenue has made him a well-respected figure in the industry for driving results in fashion retail. Shaun’s mentorship will be beneficial in compounding the growth of Nia Thomas, which has already reached over 30 countries worldwide.

[Change of Fashion Designer: Shareef Mosby]

Shareef Mosby

If there’s one word that Shareef Mosby uses to describe his designs, it’s “unconventional.” The Harlem-born, Richmond-bred designer and CEO of VICTIM15 has carved out his own lane in fashion, taking avant garde pieces and fully submerging them into the world of streetwear. Shareef’s journey began when he was 15 years old in Richmond, Virginia. It was through the creative community in this unlikely fashion hub that he founded his company which has evolved from being just a clothing brand to an immersive experience highlighting his fashion. He has taken his pieces to major fashion hubs in New York City and Miami, with ambitions for the brand to make history and gain worldwide recognition. Shareef is working alongside Elaine Welteroth, the second youngest Editor-in-Chief in Condé Nast and the second Black woman to hold the title in the company’s 107 year history. Paired up with this industry trailblazer, Shareef will be guided by someone who knows how to break boundaries and achieve lasting success in the fashion industry.

[Change of Fashion Designer: Heart Roberts ]

Heart Roberts

Heart Roberts knows there are no rules in fashion. For his pieces, he mixes, matches, manipulates and distresses to create beautiful work outside the conventional creative realm. The result has been his own brand HEARTHROB. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, he’s been around fashion and creativity his entire life, and breaking through into spaces that were previously inaccessible to people who look like him has always been one of his goals. Now, he’s determined to shatter even more boundaries and redefine what’s possible in the industry. He’s paired up with Sherri McMullen, CEO and Founder of luxury retail store McMullen who has a keen eye for spotting emerging talent and a deep commitment to uplifting Black designers in her 20+ year career in the fashion industry.

[Change of Fashion Designer: Larissa Muehleder]

Larissa Muehleder

Larissa Muehleder’s connections with people across the world has inspired her fashion journey. Born in Germany with Austrian and Nigerian, having lived in Paris, and eventually relocated to Brooklyn, New York, her concepts, designs, and overall outlook represents her worldly perspective and inspirations from people around the world. Muehleder, her fashion brand, is a testament to empowerment—both for those who wear her designs and for the broader community she represents. Throughout her career she has proudly used Black models to showcase her clothing and stands ten toes down in her decision proudly saying, “I want Black people to see themselves in a brand, especially a luxury brand, and see themselves as luxury.” Her mentor for this program is Laquan Smith COO Jacqueline Cooper, a strategic powerhouse in her own right whose creative strategy has helped elevate the brand to be adored by the fashion elite. Cooper will undoubtedly provide Larissa with the skills and support needed to continue growing as a Black luxury brand.

[Change of Fashion Designer: Durrell Dupard]

Durrell Dupard

New Orleans-native Durell Dupard has taken sewing and crocheting to a whole new level when it comes to fashion. Inspired by his parents and grandparents who practiced these crafts, Durrell has created some of the most unique designs worn by cultural icons. These one-of-a-kind creations are part of his fashion brand, Freddie Estelle. Through McDonald’s Change of Fashion Program his mentor Justina McKee (Matte Collection CEO) feels like a “big sister” to Durrell. As he navigates the industry as a Black creator, he knows he can depend on Justina to answer any questions or lend her expertise from the work she’s done in organically connecting her audience and sustaining growth in her business.

Coryn Monét is the queen of her domain and she’s redefining luxury with her multi-brand, Envysaje Atelier. The Houston, Texas native showed her chops at the Bomb Fashion show after just returning from living in France.

“I just moved back to the States from the South of France where I lived for the last 7-months with my boyfriend to take a breather, and get inspiration for my rebrand,” shared Monét.

Her rebrand comes almost a decade after graduating from college and teaching herself how to sew by looking at YouTube tutorials and online resources.

As a self-taught designer, Monét encountered many challenges, and obstacles–but she never allowed that to deter her. With an eagerness to learn, she sourced quality fabrics and learned how to design through trial and error. She took everything that came her way as an opportunity to learn and grow.

As she started to share her brand on social media, and her followers realized that she could sew, she began to get traction and maximum exposure. “My followers would ask if I could make them a jacket or a dress,” explained Monét. “ It went from swimwear, to jackets and prom gowns to wedding gowns.”

Although she started with custom designing, she has since expanded to Ready-To-Wear, cosmetics and menswear, ultimately diversifying the ‘Envysaje’ brand. “My brand is also an all inclusive brand because I know how important it is for plus -size to find really nice fashion in the stores,” said Monét.

After the inspiration she gained from living in Europe, she’s stepped away from color and prints, opting for more neutrals which we saw throughout her collection during New York Fashion Week.

“Although I’ve done LA and London fashion weeks, this is my first time doing New York Fashion week, and especially for my favorite fashion blog,” exclaimed Monét. “ It’s pretty big for me and I really appreciate the opportunity as I know how big Fashion Bomb Daily is.”

Coryn Monét started from the bottom, and now she’s here and making her dreams a reality. She’s creating her own opportunities with resources at her fingertips, and she had attendees standing on their toes with her cutting edge designs.

If you can dream it, then you can achieve it and Esther is living proof with her fashion solutions brand entitled, ‘The Boob Job.

As the founder and CEO, Esther created her company 2-years ago, and has become the underground plug.

The idea to start her fashion tape company initially came from Esther having difficulty elevating her look because of her larger bust.  She found the perfect boob tape to accommodate her needs and after being asked so many times which brand she was using, it dawned on her that she should start her own company.

Treena Marie Veal, the visionary designer behind The Treena Marie Collection (TMC), is set to showcase her flagship brand at The Bomb Fashion Show during New York Fashion Week. This marks the first time in over a decade that Treena is presenting a complete collection specifically for TMC. While she has created custom designs for friends and family over the years, this show holds special significance as it unveils designs that truly come from the heart.

“I hope to inspire other young fashion entrepreneurs who are just starting out in the industry. Building a brand takes time, but stay focused—hard work pays off. Never let go of your dreams. I’ve been on this journey for a while, and it’s more than just passion—it’s a dream realized,” says Treena. “Through my brands, I strive to bring out the best in others and encourage them to pursue their own dreams with confidence and determination.”

A Collection Rooted in Authenticity and Innovation**

Treena, an entrepreneur with a background in both fashion and home design, is becoming more known for her innovative approach to style. Her keen eye for detail and passion for creating adaptable, practical pieces are guiding the Treena Marie Collection toward establishing its place in the fashion industry. Developed with a focus on the needs of today’s professionals, the collection emphasizes her signature custom suits and introduces a work-play theme that resonates with the fast-paced lifestyles of her target audience.

A Journey of Growth and Dedication

This collection is more than just fashion; it reflects Treena’s journey as a Black-owned and funded designer bootstrapping her own company. After years of creating custom designs for friends and family, Treena is now unveiling a collection that emphasizes her commitment to quality, style, and sustainability. A standout feature of this collection is the inclusion of a signature sustainable fabric—a material she could not afford to use in the past but now proudly incorporates, symbolizing her growth and dedication to the fashion industry.

Beyond fashion, Treena has also made her mark in the world of home design. In her recent book *Renovate to Elevate*, she shares her eye for vision and detail, honed through years of remodeling and rehabilitating homes. This same attention to detail is reflected in her approach to fashion design, where she seamlessly blends aesthetics with functionality.

Innovative Sub-Brands Under the TMC Umbrella

Under the TMC umbrella, Treena has developed two specialty sub-brands, each offering a unique take on the fusion of work and athleisure. The first sub-brand is dedicated to headwear crafted from high-quality fabrics, featuring impeccable craftsmanship and innovative designs that allow for a seamless transition from the office to more relaxed settings. The second sub-brand focuses on stylish yet comfortable attire, such as sweatsuits and T-shirts, offering versatility and timeless style. These options complement the suits perfectly, embodying a balance of comfort and sophistication.

Honored to Be Part of a Platform that Celebrates Black Designers

Adding to the excitement, Treena is deeply honored to be part of an incredible platform for Black designers, created by the visionary Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily. Claire has been a trailblazer in uplifting and showcasing Black talent in the fashion industry.

Being involved with a platform that uplifts and showcases young Black talent in the fashion industry is not only an honor but also incredibly exciting to be a part of,” says Treena.

A Multifaceted Career Spanning Fashion and Design

In 2013, Treena relocated from Atlanta to Los Angeles, marking a new chapter in her career. However, she continues to maintain a bi-coastal lifestyle, living a dynamic triangle between Ohio, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, while spending time with her parents on the East Coast.

“A DREAM won’t let you rest,”  Treena reflects on her ongoing journey, a testament to her resilience, creativity, and unwavering commitment to her passions. The Treena Marie Collection is not just a brand—it’s a reflection of her life’s work and vision, combining the best of fashion, design, and entrepreneurial spirit.
